I never post on the Blog, but I wanted to contribute to this discussion. This is what this piece and this album seem to mean to me (at this moment in time): _________________________________________ We destroy our own lives. We do things that don’t make any sense, that hurt us and the people around us. We laugh to cover up what’s on the inside: we wear a mask to suppress our inner pain. But we cannot smile – because smiling comes from the soul. Our souls are unhappy, and it is therefore completely impossible for us to smile. “Happy Smiles” is a direct contradiction of this unfortunate truth. Ironically, an album which focuses on such an unhappy reality has the face of a happy smile. It’s wearing a mask, just like we are. The soul and the face of the album do not match: neither do our souls, and our faces. The font with its bright colours and shabby style resembles the writing of a child. Although he can barely write, he can smile, because his soul is still intact. Similarly, the lady on the cover can also smile, because she’s a cosmonaut. She has a “new hope, new destinies”. Yet there is something ridiculous about the whole image: this is not reality. We can’t fly to space and escape what is tormenting our souls, and we can’t stay innocent like a child forever. If we could, well, our faces would be radiant with happy smiles. But we can’t. And on this note, the album that is “Happy Smiles” begins...

hmm happy smiles = laughter??? maybe but I do not feel this was the meaning of the title. I think its more about the irony of the songs compared to the title.

No words... I love Boudelare since I was just a teenager, just when i started to love tATu too... I don´t like at all this "Happy smiles" tittle, obviously i dislike the cover for the album... But I love the irony in it. I love tATu games, I am so like tATu, that´s why I love them. I guess that´s the point! tATu use to confuse people and to say the game rules in their songs, but... no one ever pay attention... What about "Little People" saying: "This is another game. This tricky hide and seek Is always fucking freak" At once i heard a song called Dark Angel that used a phrase which i could say, it describes tATu properly: "Too heavy to hold. Too deep to see. Too clear to understand" I must Guess that Happy Smiles doesn´t exist in Russian and International Version because as I can see there are 4 english songs, 7 russian songs and one intro... I mean there are too many english songs for a russian version according to tATu style...But Ok... tATu´s always breaking rules... Just like I'm always breaking the fairytales... Smiles kinds, there are a lot. The Happy Smile... Sarcastic smile... The sexy smile... The lonely smile... Smile's not a happiness signal. Smile's not a signal at all. People use to mistake meanings. People's fed up of the sickness. What about a little smile? What about a point of view? What about of what i feel? What about a signature...? Soul cries... Body claps... Eyes shout... Hmm interesting poem... If the idea about Happy Smile is a feeling as is portrayed in this poem, then I must say that I like it. Tatu has never been simple it's all about finding a deeper meaning, which might be different for everyone... The world wants smiles, even though sometimes there is no reason to, it's all about illusions... (just my opinion) xxx anneke
